holiday Gîtes to let in Normandy

Welcome to Normandylets, internet home of three holiday gîtes in Normandy. All three are situated close to the sea (two within walking distance) and offer tranquil holidays for discerning visitors.

Our Gîtes:

holiday property in normandy

A cosy studio gite in a village setting, within walking distance from the sea

Les Pommiers (next to Les Mimosas with entirely separate orchard garden) is a recently restored studio gite, converted from an old bakery with a large, private orchard with apple and pear trees behind and a small walled courtyard adjacent. This is an ideal holiday gite for one or two people or a small family with a baby and/or toddler.

The studio is situated in the traditional seaside village of St Georges de la Riviere opposite a petit manoir and within a cluster of pretty stone houses. La rue bonvalet is a quiet road of traditional Norman stone houses, leading directly from the centre of the village to the beach (twenty minutes walk or five minutes by car). Les Pommiers has good-sized living/kitchen area and shower room on the ground floor with a short flight of old grenier attic) stairs (narrow treads) leading to the mezzanine with double bed and curtained balustrade. There is a comfortable sofabed in the living area.

The upper sleeping area is accessed by a short flight of 'grenier' (attic) stairs - these have narrow treads. The ground-floor kitchen/living area has a shower room adjoining with separate WC. Ideal accommodation for one or two people or a family with younger children. Les Pommiers is not suitable for a wheelchair. However, the sofa-bed/kitchen and sitting room area, plus shower room/WC are all the ground floor. If two families or friends are staying in both Les Pommiers and les Mimosas, they may be linked by an internal garden gate (safe from road) - ideal for a young family and grandparents. Possiblity of bringing your pet - please enquire.

Special interest holidays

Les Pommiers is ideally situated for cyclists or walkers. A myriad of flat tiny lanes connect the coastal villages to beaches. The undulating bocage is around half an hour by bicycle inland from the coast: a network of high hedged quiet roads and bridleways criss-cross the peninsula. A "Train Touristique" runs from 7th July to 27th August on Tuesdays on Tuesdays and Thursday between St Georges and market towns Portbail and Barneville-Carteret. The Marais region, around half an hour away by car, is a large area of protected marshland with an abundance of waterfowl and bankside mammals. Canoes may be hired at St Sauveur le Vicomte and guided boat trips are available with stops at both a restaurant and a café. A treetop adventure trail is available at St Sauveur le Vicomte.

Distances

The sailing resorts of Portbail and Barneville-Carteret are both 10 minutes drive from the studio.

'Perfect, convenient and full of character. Would definitely book again' Stephen Bowles, Mallorca.

Directions from Le Havre/Caen/Ouistreham to L’Auvergne

From Le Havre take the route of choice to Caen, (autoroute is the quickest). At Caen, follow the signs on the peripherique to Cherbourg N.13. Leave the N13 at Carentan, take the D903 to La Haye du Puits. At La Haye du Puits, take the D900 to St Saveur le Vicomte.
Leave St Sauveur via the D15 to Portbail. As you climb the hill leaving the town, watch out for a turning on your right : ‘Portbail via la Foret’ D130 – this is before the large builders’ merchant ‘Beuve Materiaux’; if you pass this on your right, you have gone too far.
Follow the road through the forest, past several hamlets, until you come to a wide crossroads showing left to Besneville, right to Bricquebec. Carry straight on and Hameau d’Auvergne is the second turning on the right. L’Auvergne is at the end of the lane, after passing the farm on your right; you will know if you have reached us when you spot a duck weathervane.
Bon chance et bon voyage!

Directions to L’Auvergne from CherbourgLeaving the ferry terminal, take the N.13 Caen-Rennes-St. Malo route. Turn off the N13 at Valognes. Take the D2 to St Sauveur le Vicomte.

Carry straight on and Hameau d’Auvergne is the second turning on the right. L’Auvergne is at the end of the road, after passing the farm on your right. You will know it by a duck weathervane on the roof.
Bon chance et bon voyage!
Directions to Les Mimosas from Cherbourg
Les Mimosas, 8 rue Bonvalet, St Georges de la Rivière, 50270
The drive from Cherbourg to St George de la Rivière takes about 45 minutes. Barneville-Carteret is your main point of reference. If you are lost look for signs to Barneville-Carteret.
Leaving the Ferry Terminal, at the first roundabout take the first right towards Centre Ville (you will find yourselves doubling back alongside the ferry port). At the next roundabout, with the statue of Marianne, Spirit of France in the centre, take the second exit (signposted to Caen and Rennes).
Carry straight on across several traffic lights until you begin to climb a hill, watching out for a small turn to the right which you take to Barneville-Carteret (if you miss this turn keep straight on and watch for signs to Barneville Carteret – there is an alternative route). This takes you through the suburb of La Glacerie, and after 2 or 3 kms brings you to a T-junction where you turn left onto the D900/D904/D903/D650 towards Barneville-Carteret (due to road re-numbering any of these could apply depending on the age of your map and which section on the road you are travelling on!). This is the main western coast road of the Cotentin Peninsula. Continue on this road for around 30 minutes. When you see signs to Barneville-Carteret you only have around 5 minutes left of your journey.
Stay on the same road, bypassing Barneville-Carteret. About a kilometre after seeing the Barneville turn-off, take a right turn to St Jean de la Riviere. (D166). After about one km you will reach a T-Junction with the D124. Turn left towards St. Georges de la Rivière.
On entering the village, after seeing the village shop and bar on your left (car park on right) turn right at the crossroads into Rue Bonvalet. This is the road signposted to Les Dunes and La Mer, and Les Mimosas is number 8, on your right just past the long barn with the red tiled roof. There is a blue sign with the house name on the garden wall fronting the road.
You can park on the drive in front of the gates, or you can open the gates and park in front of/inside the garage. Bon voyage!

Directions to Les Mimosas from Calais/CaenFrom Calais take the autoroute: direction Caen. At Caen, on the peripherique/ring road take the N13 in the direction of Cherbourg. Leave N13 at Carentan exit and look for signs to Haye de Puits and Barneville-Carteret.
At Haye de Puits, take the road for Barneville-Carteret. Once you begin to see signs to Portbail, start to look for the turning to St Georges de la Rivière and just after that the St Jean de la Riviére sign. I recommend the St Jean de la Rivière turning rather than St Georges, where you have to negotiate a particularly difficult blind cross-roads.
Just after the St Georges turn you will see the St Jean de la Rivière turning on the right-hand side (this is a right-hand slip road for safety reasons that then leads you to double-back and crossover the main road and head towards St Jean de la Rivière, descending towards the coast). You descend a hill and when you reach the St Jean T junction turn left towards St Georges.
Once in St Georges de la Rivière, at the main crossroads with the Marie on the corner, take the beach road, rue Bonvalet on the right. Les Mimosas is on the right just past a low barn with red pantile roof. There is a blue sign with the house name on the garden wall.
