The beach at St Georges, (20 min walk)
Situated in the pretty village of St Georges de la Riviere, less than two kilometres from the beach, the newly refurbished Les Mimosas (8 rue Bonvalet ) offers the perfect base for a Cote des Iles holiday.
Ideal for lazing in the dunes, launching your boat from the St Georges quay, trekking on horse back, or cycling and walking along the miles of sandy coast, our cottage is also well placed to explore the Normandy bocage and visit the chic sailing resorts of Barneville Carteret and Portbail.With French doors opening on to the south-facing stone-walled garden, the cottage offers up to three people + baby. A good-sized sitting-room with two sofas, English tv (with all terrestrial UK channels), video / DVD and CD player, and a bedroom with twin or king-size double bed and folding single bed if required (please specify requirements on booking), kitchen/dining room, utility room with fridge/freezer and washing machine; shower room with bidet and separate W.C.
For babies we provide a high chair, folding play pen/cot and a baby
bath.Garden is enclosed and gated.
Ample off-road parking is available as well as a secure garage for a vehicle or bicycles. Garden furniture is provided plus BBQ.
All heating is included free of charge. Pets welcome by arrangement.
Local activities and services
St Georges de la Riviere, 45 minutes drive from Cherbourg, is famous for Les Dunes de St Georges on a totally unspoilt beach just 20 minutes walk from our cottage. The beach has a boating slipway and free parking. The village has an epicerie for general groceries and adjoining bar with open log-fire on cooler days. There is a restaurant within a 20 minute walk (or 5 min drive).
The market towns of Portbail and Barneville Carteret are both within a five minute drive (15 minutes by bicycle). Both towns have sailing schools that also offer sand-sailing and boats and yachts for hire. The neighbouring village to St Georges, St Jean de la Riviere, has a nine hole golf course and riding school. In the summer season you can take day trips to the Channel Islands from both Portbail and Barneville-Carteret.This region is ideal for cycling, rambling and bird watching. Bicycle hire is easily available nearby. If you would prefer to travel as foot passengers (with or without your bicycles) it is often a cheaper ferry option.
St Georges de la Riviere has its own station, just two minutes from Les Mimosas, for a seasonal Train Touristique (mid June to mid September) that runs between Portbail and Carteret on Tuesdays and Thursdays (market days) in the summer season and a Sunday service from mid June to mid September. The service allows ample time to visit the market and local shops, stock up on all the local delicacies and enjoy a kir or three – with no worries about driving!
